What did the lawyer say?

The lawyer told about Mr. Conroy, the teenager was innocent, but that even if were guilty, hi did not intent to kill or seriously hurt anyone. That none of the witnesses presented by the prosecution testified that they saw his client stab, punch or kick anyone that nigh.

What did the lawyer say?

Mr.Conroy's lawyer, Mr.William Keahon ,in his final argument, said that his client decision was not the right one. But even if he were guilty , he did not intend to kill or seriously hurt anyone.

Mr. Keahon told to the jury that the statements "are not fact", because of the nearly 40 minutes elapsed from the time 911 call went through to the time Mr. Marcelo Lucero arrived at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, though the hospital is about three miles from where Mr. Lucero was found.

What did the lawyer say?

Hi my friends. This is the Conroy's lawyer says in the case of Marcelo Lucero.

Mr. Conroy's lawyer, William Keahon says, "The teenager was innocent, but that even if he were guilty, he did not intend to kill or seriously hurt anyone."

Attorney Keahon, told the jury on Monday that "None of the witnesses presented by the prosecution testified that they saw his client stab, punch or kick anyone that night."

Conroy's lawyer argues about his client defense, the stab in the chest of Marcelo Lucero couldn't cause his death because "It was never straight in," talking about the wound, and he added "How is a wound like that intending to cause death? There's no organ ther." The attorney in law even said "Mr Lucero should not have died from the wound."

Despite his says, the lawyer admitted his client "Were stupid" "Should he have been there with them? No."

What Did The Conroy Lawyer Say ?

The Lawyer, struck two themes seemingly at odds with each other that the teenager was innocent, but that even if he were guilty,he did not intend to kill or seriously hurt anyone.

The Defense said, "Was Unintended"

MR. Conroy's lawyer said that even if Mr. Conroy were guilty, he didn't intend to kill Mr. Lucero. None of the witnesses was present when Marcelo Lucero was murdered, and Mr. Conroy wanted just watch when their friends beat a Hispanic person, said the lawyer.

Mr. Keahon, Conroy's lawyer, also said that his client lied in the first confession to protect Mr. Overton. The wound from Mr. Lucero that night was not too deep, and it was not damage in any organs, he explained. It cut an artery and a vein. The lawyer also said that Mr. Lucero spend to much time to arrive to the hospital by the ambulance.

What dis the Lawyer say?

The Lawyer William Keahon said the Jury on Monday that none of the witnesses presented by the prosecution testified that they saw his client stab, punch or kick anyone that night. Also the Lawyer admitted at one point that some of the things his client said on the stand "were stupid", adding of Mr. Conroy's desicion not to wait in the car alone: "should he have been there with them? No".

On the court the lawyer said nobody appear to declared what Mr. Conroy did. And nobody saw if Mr.Conroy did something to someone. He said Mr. Conroy doesn't want to kill Mr. Lucero. Mr.Keahon think if Marcelo lucero died is bacause the ambulance took long time to arrive on the escen the accident and nobody can put the I.V. because the knife did'n cut the artery. He said his client was a stupid because he dont wait in to the car.

The attack Marcelo Lucero

On November 8, 2008 Marcelo Lucero was killed. Jeffrey Conroy is the principal suspect.

Jeffrey Conroy and six other teenagers were that night locking for Latinos people to hunt.

The prosecutor accused the defendant for killing Mr. Lucero with a knife. The autopsy showed that the cause of death was stab to the chest. Dr. Dawson, who practiced the autopsy founded cocaine. marijuana, and alcohol in the body.

In the ambulance nobody could give him intra venous treatment. For that reason, Marcelo Lucero was delayed for about 40 minutes to get to hospital.

Conroy's lawyer tried to demonstrate that the principal cause of death was the delay in the ambulance, and not the stab to the chest.

Latinos Recall Patter Of Attaks Befor Killing

Latinos Recall patter of Attaks Befor Killing.
The Main Points.
Latin attacks from teenagers boys,
The police doesn't put attention.
Marcelo Lucero need daed to the police take action.
Because the teenagers wants hunt and attacks befor killing.
That was no news to the Latinos, but they are in fear from the police.

this article is about. How some people attaks beforekilling a Latin Community.
some people call the police but the police think this is not important case, its only robberyand enibody was arrested.
In other cases the people was afraid because they are immigrants and doesn,t have papers.
those atttacks are no new for the Latinos.
And the police say, they don't know about it.
The attacks will be happen because the Latinosdoesn't talk and the police is negligence.
My Opinion.
The Latin community need educated about their rights. They need to know how the criminal sistem works.
They need to know the community and involved on it.
The people need to respect each other.
Help each other and share the news or information about something happen in the community.
Stop the racism, egoist, and intolerant, help each other.

history of Marcelo Lucero

I think the 3 main points in this article are; This happened on Patchogue L.I. The death of M.l. and The trial of assessing of M.L.

The most important characters are; Marcelo Lucero, and Jeffrey Conroy, the others are doctors, jurors , and polices.

The history is; one day Marcelo lucero went with his brother to drink some beers in the bar, when they decide to back home,

The attack of latinos is everyday in this country, because some many people think the immigrants are animals.

Blood on Defendant's knife victim's.

My opinion personal :

The Scientist says about the cause of death found in Marcelo Lucero body is evidence, Because the autopsy of Mr. Marcelo Lucero says the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest.
The time elapse were fatal , because He entered in shock for blood loss.

Dr.Dawson says the toxicology report found cocaine, marijuana, and alcoholic Mr.Lucero system .
I think that no people can violate others , because noone has the right to end the life of sameone.
It is important to respect the live.

Storytelling Tuesday

Dear Storytellers,

Tonight, we will read the article, Blood on Defendant’s Knife Was Victim’s, Scientist Says, from The New York Times.

In your own words, I would like you to write a story about what happened in the court room. Also, add a picture of one of the "characters" that we talked about in class.

Happy writing!

Your Valiant Teacher,

Bino

The three questions

1.- What are the 3 main points/ideas?

The police found bloodstains on the blade of a knife of a knife and on the jeans the teenagers was wearing.

The attempted attacks on the three other hispanic.

The jury in the case in State Supreme Court the first time heard from Dr. Stuart Dawson, who performed the autopsy on Mr. Lucero.

2.- Who are the characters?

The Police from Long Island.

Jeffrey Conroy, the teenager.

Mr. Lucero Ecuatorian immigrant.

Mr. Baumann testified.

Dr. Stuart Dawson, who performed the autopsy .

3.- Tell us the Story.

The story for me is very fatally because nothing can death a other people for racial hate. The Ecuatorian inmigrant coming a United State. Only for the better life.

3 Tell us the history.

In my opinion the problem is about the racial hate for latino community. They keep attacking, and robbing and nothing charges.
It is a trial against MR Conroy by MR Lucero's murder as a racial hate crime.

The evidence is MR Conroy's knife which had blood from MR Lucero, and bloodstains on MR Conroy jeans.

According with MR Keahon defendant's lawyer, important issue is the 40-minutes lapse of time in which MRLucero lost a lot of blood. It could be the real cause of his death.

THE LATINOS VICTIMS OF RACIAL ATTACKS

This article provides information on the growing problem of racial attacks against latinos.
Latinos have been attacked since many years ego. This problem get a lot of attention now from the news and the police, because Marcelo Lucer's death.
Before that,it wasn't publicated, because the police didn't listen serusly to the victims.

Tuesday, May 4, 2010

My opinion about the article

I think everybody has the same right in this country, and people who come from other countries should not be considered as criminals.

My opinion about the article

My opinion about the article

The Patchogue' population should teach their youth people .They must know that hispanis are no "Animals to Hunt",because we come to this country to help in its economy. Mostly of us are very hard worker and try to give our contribution to a better comunity.
I think the police at Patchogue,NY have to reach people to find in Latinos their targets . As soon as they start working on violence against immigrants , Hispanics population will feel free to walk on the U.S.

Latinos recall pattern of attacks

I can't believe that this attacks still happen

I think it is ridiculous that in this times people act on the basis of their prejudices.right now I feel sad about this cases, where the victim are a specific community, that why I think this a case of discrimination and in this country this things have to be unacceptables.we can't still living in a society where prejudice exist. my questuion is why the people don't teach their child the tolerance and respect differences to other?.. because the childrens do it what their parents do. we have to find effective ways to live and work well togheter.

Latinos Recall Pattern of Attacks Before Killing

I think that the hatred towards Latinos is because different reason. One of the reason could be the education that the teenagers receive at home. The parents don't know what their children do when they are in the streets and alone. The communication between the family member is not always the best.

Evidently exists some hard feelings against the Latino people; it is not only because some of them are illegal; it is against the culture and custom from them. Perhaps some Americans are afraid of losing their identity, or are afraid of being invaded by them.

Whatever the cause is, we need to stop this behavior if we want to have a better community for us, and for our children.

on my own oppinion

I think, why i need to wait for somebody died to take an action.
why the police doesn't nothing, until the problem is biggest?
I thought in this country the law is correctly, but many times this is not the true.
why some white people, doesn't like Hispanics?
why they hate us?
why only for Hispanics?it is because is hard for defend us?
I think, we came to this country for a better life, only for that.
we don,t want to kill no body,we want work only.
I think when Hispanic,s will together everything can change, because some similar happened with the color people.now nobody can say nothing to them , because their has a priority everywhere.

LATINOS RECALL PATTERN OF ATTACKS BEFORE KILLING.

I think this article is Illegal immigrants, especially Latinos should't living in fear. There was a ppattern of many attacks againts Latino immigrant, by white teenage boys. Every attack based on racismo should be classifed as a '' Hate Crime". Many illegal emmigrants do not report the attaks because they fear the police. Latino immigrants don't report racial attacks and crimes because they are in the country illegaly. The many stories about the Racial Attacks are on declined to commentary.

I thinks is necesary everybody take help one to one. Is very important respect the persons.
No is important the sacial status, religion. race, origen the life is the life.

In my opinion : When I see racial attachs, I will call the police.

MY OPINION ABOUT THE ARTICLE

I think this article is very interesting, because it touch a issue not for patchouge but for all country.Where millions of immmigrants are sufering all kind of attacks by people who believe that they are the real american, when they were immigrants one or two generation before. The worst part of this problem are the politiciams who no wants to reform the immigrations laws in behalf of all immigrants living here. Instead they every day wants to made tough policies against ilegal immigration. This is the reason that fuel a nationalisty feelings against immigants which resolt is the racial hite.

Opinions own

My idea about this articulo is that racial hate permit people against people. The police they don't listen when latin people complain about agressive white people. Maybe when more latin people became polices then latin people will be listened. The History of this country will change when latin people they will are more than white people. Many latin people they don't have confidence in the police and autorities. The animal instint mark its own place and they don't permit any intruder in side your zone. when people believe that your country is your house then they don't accept other people into. It is very difficult to live how civiliced people.

LATINOS RECALL

LATINOS RECALL

My opion about the article

I think this article is very important for all people especialment for Ecuatorian people because have more descrimination for imigrants . The imigrants are responsability, honesty and work very hard. This is Injusticie criminal several of his attackers. The police don't caming at time had police negligence. But the problems began long before Mr. Lucero's death. And the series of attacks involved far more tennagers. the principal was Jeffrey Conroy .

Latinos recall patters of attacks before killing

I think the situation in patchogue long island town, is cause the immigrants people cant report the assaults. Because they don't have legal status in this country, and they afraid talk to the police.
the teenager abused immigrants people because of racism, a lot of discrimination in this country everywhere.
The police sometimes ignore the reports and the complains of violence immigrants.
Its not fear the Innocent people death in this situation.
They continue attacking and robbing and nothing changes. There had to be a death was Mr lucero
maybe one day the violence stop, and the police protect, and listen the immigrants people and arrest the teenager.

danilo's opinion about marcelo lucero's article.

I think that, so many latinos people living here in the United States ,are scared about what is happening with the racial hatred. We can see the news on the TV ,on the newspaper, and from friends. About racial crime, harassment, muggings, assaults, violences, attacks, and robbery. Who have been made specialy from teenagers, and the latinos do not want to report anything to the police, because they think, maybe they will be on trouble. The police could ask so many questions and some of them dont know how to write or talk right and they dont want to be envolved in any case with the police, and they think also the police wont pay attention to whatever they say. wich is not good, because there is no other way to take care of what is happening. So if we see something, we have to say something .This is the only way to undern control, and if the police take control they will stop this before the bad things happen.

Latinos recall pattem of attacks before killing

My own opinion.
According to the article in new york times, the discrimination attacking and affecting the immigrant is because they think everybody are the same ,but a lot of Latinos are good citizens.
even thou they blame the people, they don't know who you are or where you come from. But one of the big problems in this country is the police, because they ignore all this things.

Latinos Recall Pattern of Attacks Before Killing

My opinion personally is that all cases the violent are original is for hate racial that exist.
This attacks toward the people Latinos are also product the gang of teenagers , the victim never reported to the police because of their illegal status in this country.

OPINION

I think about the article Latinos attacks what will have more policeman in the towns, where is happening mostly attacks against Hispanic people and the authorities pay attention went the cases reported.

What the states have several laws against attackers, whatever age them have.

JENNY

My oponion abaut the article

The problems began long before. Mr luceros death and by the mens accounts, the series of attacks involved for more teenagers. The problems is about the racial heate for Latinos community and discrimination.

You can see many people walking and shopping around, beautiful women dressing informal clothing because of tropical weather, and children enjoying a delicious ice cream.

I like my neighborhood because I can meet happy people. I can get diversity of Hispanic food, I can find items and products from all foreign and local regions.
Enthusiasm and good attitude are the most important values of Hispanic community where I live. I am bound Latinos is an huge asset to New York and along the united States. The worst could be lack of use of the English language.

My Neighborhood

In my Neighborhood are many Latinos. They come from different countries, and most of them are from Dominican Republic, Mexico, Ecuador, and Colombia. I don't too much about their custom and traditions, because I come from Paraguay - South America. In my country we have different traditions. Most of the Latinos people are Catholics. In my culture the Holidays are usual catholics holidays.

In the USA the people think that the Latino are all the same, because they speak Spanish. For example in South America, there are 13 countries. Only 9 countries speak Spanish; and the other speak Portuguese, French, and English. It is wrong think that all the people that speak the same language have the same culture and custom. For that reason I can't talk about the culture in my neighborhood, because I don't know too much about that.

my community

Around my neighbor there are a few houses in the block, because i live in a block surrounded by factories.

I like my block because it is quiet and clean, nevertheless it is far from the bus stop, supermarkets and pharmacys.

Most of the people around my block are from Poland.

We are a latin family,we are learning English faster than other families, because my family is trying to practice all the time a new lenguaje.

Most of our neighbor have the same customs as us.

For example: They make barbecue, and parties in the summer as my family usually do it.

On the other hand, my family's religion is different from our neighbor's.

We are Jehova witnesses and most our neighbor are catholics.

In my neighborhood people are from, Italian, Ecuatorian and colombian.I do not see my neighbords very often. Now Iam going to talk abaut the custums of Colombian people, food muisic parties. The food i delicius and of great variety, according to the differents cities, for example in Medellin bandeja paisa , in Bogota ajiaco etc.Colombian people are very happy and listen to different type of music, vallenato, salsa, cumbia. The parties of Colombia deppend the time of the year.

My Neighborhood

I have lived in Corona Queens, for many years. In my neigborhood, theres alot of latino people and also latin people, Italians, and Portuguese.
The a majority of larinos, that live in my area, ara Dominicans, Mexican andArgentines.
The Dominicans are a very happy people, always hyper and helpful. The majority of the Dominicans are christian, and they always like to be with their family, for example, on Saturday afternoon they like to play the music loud and play domino.

They are people that they like to have their own bussiness, such as bodegas, barber shops and supermakets.
The Mexicans Community is very diverse and different.
The majority are catholic, on the December 12, Mexican people celebrate the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
The Mexican Community also own bussiness, restaurants. and bodegas.
The restaurans always are crowded by different kind of costumers, because Mexican food is been known for best foods.

THE LATINO COMMUNITY IN QUEENS

I have lived in Sunnyside since 2000. In my neighborhood, I can find many latin cultures, for example, Colombians, Dominicans, Ecuadorian, Mexicans Puerto Ricans, Brazilians, etc.
The latin people are friendly and kind. The Domicans and Boricuas are nice, they come outside and sit on the stairs in the summer. They turn on the radio, dance and make a lot of noise almost until 11:00pm.
I can talk to about my culture, Ecuadorian families give a lot of love to each a other. The mothers take care and educate her children. At Christmas the chidren put on customes and walk in the streets to celebrate the birth of Jesus, then go to the church.
At home each family makes a special food for Christmas Day and give presents to each a other.

This is the place where colombians and mexicans celebrate their national day with music and dancing, and cook ethnic foods. A soccer championship is held every year.

In my neighborhood, most people come from two countries,Mexico and Ecuador. They have different customs and traditions. First I want to talk about the Mexican people. The next day, they go to the church and bring flowers, fruit, bread and the traditional mole poblano.
Mexicans have a very important holiday. This is September 16th because it is independence day. But in New York City, people celebrate may 5th because most Mexican come from Puebla. Mexican families believe in God and the Lady of guadalupe. The religion is catholic. Mexicans believe in the Holy family and they try to keep their families together.Every Sunday, the families go to church.

Dear CIET Next Steps Class,

Welcome to our class blog project called, The Marcelo Lucero Project. Many of you have heard of Marcelo Lucero through the Spanish-speaking media. Now, we will revisit and follow the story in the English speaking media, specifically in The New York Times.

It is a tragic story that touches all Americans. Many of us can see ourselves in the shoes of Marcelo Lucero, an immigrant from Ecuador who was killed for no other reason but being Latino and who found himself at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Our Class Blog

In this blog, we will read and write about the history of hate crimes in the U.S. and also in the world. We will read about the Japanese Internment Camps in the U.S. and the Holocaust in Europe during World War II. We will also look at more current Anti-Muslim sentiment in Europe. We will write about our own personal experiences with discrimination. But most of all, we will follow Marcelo Lucero's story as the case goes to court for the trial of the young perpetrators from Patchogue, New York.

Every Tuesday

As a class, we will work on this project every Tuesday of the week. I would like all of you to be prepared to come to class by reading the assigned news article from The New York Times. Make sure to underline words, phrases, and sentences you don't understand. Don't worry! We will read the article together on Tuesdays before we go to the computer room! Also, every week, we will post our personal writings on the blog. Since this is a group blog, everyone will have a chance to read your fellow classmates' works.

Important!

We will begin on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 in the computer room. I would like everyone to have an email address by creating one on http://www.gmail.com/. Please make sure you keep your email addresses and passwords. You will need them to access our class blog. If you have more experience using the Internet, please help your classmates who don't.

First Reading

The first articles we will read are below. Please click, read, and print.

A Killing in a Town Where Latinos Sense Hate

What is Racism, Prejudice, Discrimination, Bias, and Xenophobia?

Thank you. More written instructions will follow.
