What did the lawyer say?
What did the lawyer say?
Mr.Conroy's lawyer, Mr.William Keahon ,in his final argument, said that his client decision was not the right one. But even if he were guilty , he did not intend to kill or seriously hurt anyone.
Mr. Keahon told to the jury that the statements "are not fact", because of the nearly 40 minutes elapsed from the time 911 call went through to the time Mr. Marcelo Lucero arrived at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, though the hospital is about three miles from where Mr. Lucero was found.
Mr. Conroy's lawyer, William Keahon says, "The teenager was innocent, but that even if he were guilty, he did not intend to kill or seriously hurt anyone."
Attorney Keahon, told the jury on Monday that "None of the witnesses presented by the prosecution testified that they saw his client stab, punch or kick anyone that night."
Conroy's lawyer argues about his client defense, the stab in the chest of Marcelo Lucero couldn't cause his death because "It was never straight in," talking about the wound, and he added "How is a wound like that intending to cause death? There's no organ ther." The attorney in law even said "Mr Lucero should not have died from the wound."
Despite his says, the lawyer admitted his client "Were stupid" "Should he have been there with them? No."
What Did The Conroy Lawyer Say ?
The Lawyer, struck two themes seemingly at odds with each other that the teenager was innocent, but that even if he were guilty,he did not intend to kill or seriously hurt anyone.
The Defense said, "Was Unintended"
Mr. Keahon, Conroy's lawyer, also said that his client lied in the first confession to protect Mr. Overton. The wound from Mr. Lucero that night was not too deep, and it was not damage in any organs, he explained. It cut an artery and a vein. The lawyer also said that Mr. Lucero spend to much time to arrive to the hospital by the ambulance.

The attack Marcelo Lucero
On November 8, 2008 Marcelo Lucero was killed. Jeffrey Conroy is the principal suspect.
Jeffrey Conroy and six other teenagers were that night locking for Latinos people to hunt.
The prosecutor accused the defendant for killing Mr. Lucero with a knife. The autopsy showed that the cause of death was stab to the chest. Dr. Dawson, who practiced the autopsy founded cocaine. marijuana, and alcohol in the body.
In the ambulance nobody could give him intra venous treatment. For that reason, Marcelo Lucero was delayed for about 40 minutes to get to hospital.
Conroy's lawyer tried to demonstrate that the principal cause of death was the delay in the ambulance, and not the stab to the chest.

It is important to respect the live.
Storytelling Tuesday
Tonight, we will read the article, Blood on Defendant’s Knife Was Victim’s, Scientist Says, from The New York Times.
In your own words, I would like you to write a story about what happened in the court room. Also, add a picture of one of the "characters" that we talked about in class.
Happy writing!
Your Valiant Teacher,

The three questions
1.- What are the 3 main points/ideas?
The police found bloodstains on the blade of a knife of a knife and on the jeans the teenagers was wearing.
The attempted attacks on the three other hispanic.
The jury in the case in State Supreme Court the first time heard from Dr. Stuart Dawson, who performed the autopsy on Mr. Lucero.

The Police from Long Island.
Jeffrey Conroy, the teenager.
Mr. Lucero Ecuatorian immigrant.
Mr. Baumann testified.
Dr. Stuart Dawson, who performed the autopsy .
3.- Tell us the Story.
The story for me is very fatally because nothing can death a other people for racial hate. The Ecuatorian inmigrant coming a United State. Only for the better life.

3 Tell us the history.
In my opinion the problem is about the racial hate for latino community. They keep attacking, and robbing and nothing charges.
The evidence is MR Conroy's knife which had blood from MR Lucero, and bloodstains on MR Conroy jeans.
According with MR Keahon defendant's lawyer, important issue is the 40-minutes lapse of time in which MRLucero lost a lot of blood. It could be the real cause of his death.

The testimony of the teenager, Jeffrey Conroy, who is accused of killing the immigrant, Marcelo Lucero, in an attack in November 2008 in Patchogue, it was part of a series of racially motivated assault by Mr. Conroy and six other teenagers.
The police from the Long Island, found Bloodstains on the blade of a knife, and others Bloodstains on the jeans and tank top was wearing Mr Conroy that day. The forensic scientist from the Suffolk County Crime laboratory said the Bloodstains found on the Knife, jeans and sweatshirt from Mr. Conroy showed from two people on it, one matched the DNA of the victim.
The Patchogue Ambulance Company, to take Mr. Lucero to the Hospital that night, nearly 40 minutes elapsed time from when the 911 call was made, 11:55 pm, to when Mr. Lucero arived at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, 12:34 am. The Hospital is about 3 Miles from where Mr. Lucero was found.
Dr. Dawson said under cross examination that the essence of Mr. Lucero's situation after he had been stabbed was "loss of blood volumen"

THE LATINOS VICTIMS OF RACIAL ATTACKS
Latinos have been attacked since many years ego. This problem get a lot of attention now from the news and the police, because Marcelo Lucer's death.
Before that,it wasn't publicated, because the police didn't listen serusly to the victims.

My opinion about the article
My opinion about the article
I think the police at Patchogue,NY have to reach people to find in Latinos their targets . As soon as they start working on violence against immigrants , Hispanics population will feel free to walk on the U.S.
Latinos recall pattern of attacks
I think it is ridiculous that in this times people act on the basis of their prejudices.right now I feel sad about this cases, where the victim are a specific community, that why I think this a case of discrimination and in this country this things have to be unacceptables.we can't still living in a society where prejudice exist. my questuion is why the people don't teach their child the tolerance and respect differences to other?.. because the childrens do it what their parents do. we have to find effective ways to live and work well togheter.
Latinos Recall Pattern of Attacks Before Killing
Evidently exists some hard feelings against the Latino people; it is not only because some of them are illegal; it is against the culture and custom from them. Perhaps some Americans are afraid of losing their identity, or are afraid of being invaded by them.
Whatever the cause is, we need to stop this behavior if we want to have a better community for us, and for our children.
on my own oppinion
why the police doesn't nothing, until the problem is biggest?
I thought in this country the law is correctly, but many times this is not the true.
why some white people, doesn't like Hispanics?
why they hate us?
why only for Hispanics?it is because is hard for defend us?
I think, we came to this country for a better life, only for that.
we don,t want to kill no body,we want work only.
I think when Hispanic,s will together everything can change, because some similar happened with the color people.now nobody can say nothing to them , because their has a priority everywhere.
LATINOS RECALL PATTERN OF ATTACKS BEFORE KILLING.
I thinks is necesary everybody take help one to one. Is very important respect the persons.
No is important the sacial status, religion. race, origen the life is the life.
In my opinion : When I see racial attachs, I will call the police.
MY OPINION ABOUT THE ARTICLE
Opinions own
My opion about the article
Latinos recall patters of attacks before killing
the teenager abused immigrants people because of racism, a lot of discrimination in this country everywhere.
The police sometimes ignore the reports and the complains of violence immigrants.
Its not fear the Innocent people death in this situation.
They continue attacking and robbing and nothing changes. There had to be a death was Mr lucero
maybe one day the violence stop, and the police protect, and listen the immigrants people and arrest the teenager.
danilo's opinion about marcelo lucero's article.
Latinos recall pattem of attacks before killing
According to the article in new york times, the discrimination attacking and affecting the immigrant is because they think everybody are the same ,but a lot of Latinos are good citizens.
even thou they blame the people, they don't know who you are or where you come from. But one of the big problems in this country is the police, because they ignore all this things.
Latinos Recall Pattern of Attacks Before Killing
This attacks toward the people Latinos are also product the gang of teenagers , the victim never reported to the police because of their illegal status in this country.
OPINION
What the states have several laws against attackers, whatever age them have.

In Jackson Heights, but more extensively in all Queens area, we can find diversity of ethnicities, languages, religious beliefs, cultures and foreign food. People from Dominican Republic, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, etc gather in Queens.
In Queens people work hard, and they try to improve their life every day. The Hispanic community contributes to develop this country. Most Hispanic family members attend the school and get at least one job at the same time.
My neighborhood has plenty of brave and happy people. In the summer time you find streets busier than usual. A lot of stores and restaurants are crowded all of the time. You can see many people walking and shopping around, beautiful women dressing informal clothing because of tropical weather, and children enjoying a delicious ice cream.

A large South Asian neigborhood with numerous Indian restaurants groceries and shops, including a Bollywood movie theater. The rest of the neigborhood is an incredibly diverse latino community with nationalities all the way from Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argtentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, etc.
Queens food is created by genuine ethnic inhabitants, like spicy food. Real taste of Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and another countries.
One of the largest and most densely populated of New York City's five boroughs, Queens is a true melting pot, reflecting the city's history as a beacon for immigration from all points of the globe. The culinary cultures of Latin America have left a lasting footprint on Queens' restaurant scene. While some eateries focus solely on the cuisine of a specific nation or region, many offer mixed menus or unique fusion dishes that utilize traditional ingredients in deliciously surprising ways
latino community...
In my neighborhood, most people come from two countries,Mexico and Ecuador. They have different customs and traditions. First I want to talk about the Mexican people. They have strong traditions, but the most important for the Mexican families is the day of dead. At night people go to the cementery and they stay there the whole night. The next day, they go to the church and bring flowers, fruit, bread and the traditional mole poblano.
Mexicans have a very important holiday. This is September 16th because it is independence day. But in New York City, people celebrate may 5th because most Mexican come from Puebla. Mexican families believe in God and the Lady of guadalupe. The religion is catholic. Mexicans believe in the Holy family and they try to keep their families together.Every Sunday, the families go to church.
Ecuatorian people celebrate three days of Carnaval. In this celebration, they make special food and they play with flour on the face and throw water one each other.
THE LATINO COMMUNITY IN QUEENS
In my neighborhood, there are many churchs, one Hospital, many night clubs. Also there are two post offices from I send my letters. there are many stores, groceries, bakeries, two supermarkets, and three stores for body massage, that I go frecuently.
On the 74 and 76 Street, in summer all weekends, there are meetings with Indian arts people.
My nieghborhood has everythings Fedex and UPS, several stores for internet, coffe net, and games in computers.
At night the police walk on streets for control all ppeople, and delicuency.
I'm happy in my neighborhood because I feel safe, and have my own office for work.

Dear CIET Next Steps Class,
It is a tragic story that touches all Americans. Many of us can see ourselves in the shoes of Marcelo Lucero, an immigrant from Ecuador who was killed for no other reason but being Latino and who found himself at the wrong place, at the wrong time.
Our Class Blog
In this blog, we will read and write about the history of hate crimes in the U.S. and also in the world. We will read about the Japanese Internment Camps in the U.S. and the Holocaust in Europe during World War II. We will also look at more current Anti-Muslim sentiment in Europe. We will write about our own personal experiences with discrimination. But most of all, we will follow Marcelo Lucero's story as the case goes to court for the trial of the young perpetrators from Patchogue, New York.
Every Tuesday
As a class, we will work on this project every Tuesday of the week. I would like all of you to be prepared to come to class by reading the assigned news article from The New York Times. Make sure to underline words, phrases, and sentences you don't understand. Don't worry! We will read the article together on Tuesdays before we go to the computer room! Also, every week, we will post our personal writings on the blog. Since this is a group blog, everyone will have a chance to read your fellow classmates' works.
Important!
We will begin on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 in the computer room. I would like everyone to have an email address by creating one on http://www.gmail.com/. Please make sure you keep your email addresses and passwords. You will need them to access our class blog. If you have more experience using the Internet, please help your classmates who don't.
First Reading
The first articles we will read are below. Please click, read, and print.
